PREVENTION RATHER THAN CURE
As with any floor covering material, a few moments of regular care and a little common sense can go a long way towards a new hardwood floor looking its best. Here are a few simple suggestions which make floor care easier.
# NEVER CLEAN YOUR FLOOR WITH WATER. Do NOT use any wax or cleaner that must be must be used with water, as this may result
in a loss of Warranty. Water can dull the finish, and permanently damage the floor.
# If a floor abuts exterior doors, put outside mats at the entrances to keep dirt and moisture from being brought in. Indoors it may be advisable to add
and area rug to further prevent dirt and moisture from being tracked onto the hardwood floor. Do Not use Rubber, foam back or plastic mats as they may
discolour the floor. To prevent uneven ageing of the floor move rugs regularly or roll-up when not in use. ALWAYS USE with an approved anti-slip
backing.
# Sweep or vacuum the floor as often as required to remove loose dirt or grit before it scratches the surface of the floor.
# Wipe up spills as soon as possible, before the get sticky or dry. Remove dried spills with a cloth that is barely damp.
# Area rugs should be removed occasionally as they block sunlight which may give the appearance of discolouring under the rug.
# Use protectors on the feet of furniture to avoid scratches. These are available from SW Advanced Flooring or any good DIY store. When moving heavy
furniture or appliances, slip a blanket or scrap of carpet, face down, under each foot and slide the furniture carefully. This will help avoid scratching and
gouging.
# Certain types of casters on furniture may damage hardwood flooring. Barrel-type caster wheels or wide. flat glides are best for protecting a hardwood
floor. If furniture does not have the right type of caster, it is recommended that they are changed.
# A humidifier is recommended to prevent excessive shrinkage of wood floors due to low humidity levels. Wood stoves and electric heat tend to cause very
very dry conditions. A humidity level of 45-55% is recommended.
# In damp conditions, proper humidity levels can be maintained with an air conditioner or dehumidifier, or periodically turning on your heating system during
the summer months.
